USCG awarded five contracts for a polar icebreaker

The USCG (United States Coast Guard) has awarded five firm fixed-price contracts to carry out the design, research and analysis of the polar icebreaker. The final value of the offer amounts to $ 20 million. The contracts were won by Bollinger Shipyards, Fincantieri Marine Group, General Dynamics / NASSCO, Huntington Ingalls and VT Halter Marine. The studies are expected to take 12 months. The USCG plans to release a draft request for proposal (RFP) for detail design and construction by the end of fiscal year 2017.
