On August 17 2017, the Russian icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy set a new speed record for reaching the North Pole, having completed the journey from Murmansk to the North Pole in 79 hours. The 50 Let Pobedy, which is translated as “50 Years of Victory” is owned by the Russian Federation and is a part of the Murmansk port.
The 360-meter container ship CSCL Jupiter is now stranded on the Westerschelde estuary in the Netherlands. Help with freeing the container ship is underway as at least 5 tugs have been dispatched to help the CSCL Jupiter pull free. Shipping traffic has been closed.
The US Navy’s damaged USS Fitzgerald is to be moved back to the US after it collided with the ACX Crystal container ship in Japan. The vessel suffered flooding and underwent basic repairs, but it is not capable of sailing on its own.
Zeaborn has decided to buy five heavy-lift vessels from Rickmers Holding. Their price is high and the ships in question are the Rickmers Singapore, the Rickmers New Orleans, the Rickmers Jakarta, the Rickmers Dalian and the Rickmers Seoul, which were built in 2003 and 2004. Each of these ships has a market value of USD 7 million. The vessels will be delivered to Zeaborn in late September.
